Community Interpreting Course Registration
Registration and Prerequisites
Thank you for your interest in Piedmont Academy’s 40-hour Community Interpreting training course. Our online course features “LIVE” instruction allowing students to interact, ask questions and communicate with a real person. The integration of live instructors in this course transforms it into a powerful and superior learning platform. By combining flexibility, accessibility, and personalized attention, online courses with our instructors offers an enriched educational experience that aligns with the demands of the contemporary learning environment.
In order to register for the course you will need to complete the registration form provided below. There are also some pre-requisites required before you can be approved to attend. The information provided will only be used to register your interest and will not be used for any other purpose.
Prerequisites for the course:
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Possess a high school diploma or the equivalent
- Provide proof of language proficiency in both base and target languages, or
- Provide proof of a 4-year college degree from an accredited institution
- Present a current resume
- Have a reliable internet connection
- Join each session from a laptop or computer (not phone or tablet)
- Use headphones with a microphone
Course Fee
The fee includes 40 hours of online instruction with a “live” instructor and all course materials, which will be delivered electronically. At the end of the course, you will receive a certificate of completion. This course meets the 40-hour training requirement for the two U.S. national certification programs for medical interpreters: the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters (CCHI) and the National Board of Certified Medical Interpreters (NBCMI). This certificate will put you one step closer to certification!
Class Schedule for 2025
Cohort: May — August 2025
Tuesday, May 27 – August 11
Tuesdays and Thursdays, 2 hours per session
7:30 — 9:30 PM (EST)
Cohort: September — November 2025
Saturday, September 13 — Saturday, November 15
Saturdays, 4.5 hours per session (each session includes a 30 min break)
12:00 — 4:30 PM (EST)
Attendance Policy: To receive your program certificate, you must complete the full 40 hours of the training OR make-up your missed hours at a different date (requires prior approval by the course Instructor). You must also complete a 90-minute final exam.
Cancellation and Refund Policy: There are no refunds for student cancellations. However, students may defer their paid registration to a future cohort if:
- They communicate in writing to info@piedmontacademy.org at least 5 calendar days before the start of the course, and
- There is space in the future cohort
In the event Piedmont Academy cancels or changes dates for a cohort, students will have the option for a full refund.
